Leeds Trinity University’s partnership with Catholic Care’s Gianna Baby Bank and Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm is making this Christmas shine a little brighter for children living in poverty!
Launched at the beginning of November, the Little Stars campaign is an innovative way of giving Christmas presents to children who would otherwise receive nothing at all.
Catholic Care’s Gianna Baby Bank and Lineham Farm gave the Leeds Trinity University Chaplaincy a ‘wish-list’ written on gift tags to hang on the Christmas trees in the atria of both Leeds Trinity campuses.
Generous students, staff and visitors to the University took a tag, bought a gift and returned it to Reception – and in just FOUR WEEKS, nearly 600 tags were taken and more than 1,400 presents are already sitting under the tree, ready for distribution via the charities to children in need this Christmas!
Matt Lomas, CEO of Catholic Care, said: ‘The generosity shown through the Little Stars Christmas Appeal will bring immeasurable joy to children across our diocese. For many families facing hardship, these gifts will be a powerful reminder that they are seen, valued and supported.’
Hannah Hayward, Coordinating Lay Chaplain at LTU, whose team initiated the project, said: ‘To see staff and students embrace Little Stars and provide so many items has been awe-inspiring and provided me with another reminder of why I love being part of this community – we are a generous, compassionate, and mission-minded organisation, rooted in Catholic values. I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful new Christmas tradition at Leeds Trinity!’
