Welcome

Whether you are visiting from the press or media; or as a parishioner, teacher or member of the clergy from our Diocese with an interest in Communications; or with a story to publicise to the rest of the Diocese via our website – or to an even wider audience – these pages are for YOU!

After more than two decades as a BBC producer and director of religious TV and Radio programmes (including Songs of Praise) and as a news and current affairs journalist, I was appointed in 2016 with oversight of all internal and external communication and to devise and implement a Diocesan Communications Strategy.

The purpose and mission of the Church is ultimately to save souls by bringing the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ to all people so they become His followers. Therefore our strategy is not some static corporate document; instead, it is a humane and flexible framework, geared to facilitating our mission of evangelisation:

  • to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the widest possible audience across our Diocese and beyond: through the dissemination of ‘good news stories’ of general interest from our parishes, schools and charities; through  broadcasts of our Liturgies and Sacred Music; and by increasing Catholic ‘visibility’ through pilgrimages and public cultural events.
  • to dispel myths and misconceptions about the Catholic Church, her clergy and laity, with the aim of enthusing and encouraging the faithful of all ages and backgrounds, welcoming back the lapsed, and having a positive effect on vocations;
  • to listen and to facilitate internal communications, collaborations and relationships; protecting our reputation as a Church and charity and enabling all to feel heard, valued, acknowledged and supported as diverse, individual members of our ONE Diocesan Family, and part of the wider Family of the Universal Church.
