Learning about the Liturgy

Children in Year 1 at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School in Leeds have taken learning about the inside of a church to a whole new level and have helped staff and their School Chaplain, Fr Joshua Hilton, in building their very own classroom chapel.

Fully equipped for the celebration of the Liturgy, the chapel has proved to be a very popular playtime area and has been successful in helping the children learn about the interior elements of a church and the roles of the priest and laity alike.

Headteacher Angela Phillips said, ‘The children have enjoyed helping to build our church and have had great fun whilst being engaged in practical learning. We also hope that the play chapel might also help encourage vocations to the priesthood within our own school.’
