Aimee’s Audience with Pope Leo!

Aimee Grieve, a teacher at Holy Rosary and St Anne’s Catholic Primary School in Chapeltown, has just returned from a pilgrimage to Rome where she was fortunate enough to have an audience with Pope Leo and was chosen to present the Holy Father with a gift from the Catholic Education Service (CES).

Aimee, in her third year of teaching, was part of a group that included ten teachers selected to represent the Catholic Education Service in England, with others coming from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

As well as meeting the Pope, the group had the opportunity to visit St Peter’s tomb, Monte Cassino Benedictine Abbey, the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls and the the Venerable English College.

Aimee said, ‘I really feel privileged to have been able to go on pilgrimage to the Vatican in this Holy Year of Jubilee. It was amazing to meet Pope Leo and present him with a gift from the Catholic Education Service, as well as to network with other Catholic teachers.  I am incredibly grateful to my school, and St Gregory the Great Trust for supporting me in the experience of a lifetime!’

Catholic Senior Executive Leader, Peter Hughes, who is CEO of the St Gregory the Great Catholic Academy Trust said, ‘We were delighted to be able to give this opportunity to Aimee. We are committed as a Trust  to developing our teachers, not only educationally, but also spiritually.’

The present chosen by the CES for Pope Leo was less spiritual than spirituous; a bottle of traditional English gin, known throughout Britain as ‘Mother’s Ruin’, although perhaps on this occasion that should be ‘(Holy) Father’s Ruin’!
