Installation of New Canons

8th December 2016

Installation of New Canons

Parishioners in the Huddersfield and North Leeds Deaneries will be delighted to hear that their Deans, Fr Ian Smith and Fr Timothy Wiley (Parish Priests of Holy Redeemer and St John Mary Vianney Parishes respectively), were installed as Canons of the Chapter of Leeds Cathedral.

Bishop Marcus celebrated Mass in the Cathedral for the installation of the new Canons on the afternoon of Thursday, 8th December 2016 – the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God.

Mgr David Smith has been a Parish Priest in the Wakefield and Halifax Deaneries, and celebrates the Latin Mass in the Extraordinary Form, as does Fr Wiley, who is EF Co-ordinator for the Diocese.  Currently Parish Priest of St Martin de Porres Parish, he was installed as an Honorary Canon during this Chapter Mass, by Provost John Aveyard (who preached a homily on the special gifts of Mary, Mother of God, the text of which will follow in due course).

The Bishop has also appointed Fr Timothy Swinglehurst as an Honorary Canon and he will be installed at a Chapter Mass at a later date.

Congratulations to all them all!
