The Catholic Church across Yorkshire's historic West Riding since 1878

Visit St Edward’s Clifford for a Day of Heritage and Music – for FREE!

On Monday, 9 September between 10:00 and 16:00 hrs, ALL will be welcome to attend the FREE Heritage Open Day at the Catholic Church of St Edward, King and Confessor, 49 High Street, Clifford, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, LS23 6HJ.

St Edward’s was ‘promoted’ to the status of a Grade II* building in 2022 and last year, the church celebrated the 175th anniversary of its opening on 25 May 1848. The programme of events was developed to mark these historic occasions, which could not be fully celebrated at the time, owing to construction works and scaffolding during last year’s significant refurbishments, enabled by generous grant awards from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust (YHCT), the National Churches Trust (NCT) and the Benefact Trust.

Here’s the schedule of interesting talks and inspiring music brought to St Edward’s from Parish Priest Fr Sean Molloy’s other nearby parish of St Joseph’s, Tadcaster as well as musicians from Leeds Cathedral and Cathedral School, and partners from right across the Diocese of Leeds and beyond:

10:00 –  Organ recital by Adam Tomlinson from St Joseph’s, Tadcaster

11:00 –  ‘Illuminating Stained Glass’, a talk by Keith Barley MBE of Barley Studio in York

12:00 – Organ recital by William Campbell, Leeds Cathedral Organist

13:00 – Music from the Children’s Chorus of Holy Rosary and St Anne’s Primary School, Chapeltown: the country’s only state Cathedral Choir School!

14:00 – Classical guitar music from Alex O’Neill of St Joseph’s, Tadcaster

15:00 – ‘A Glimpse of Heaven: St Edward’s Catholic Church’, a talk by Robert Finnigan, Leeds Diocesan Archivist.

Times are approximate, so please check St Edward’s website closer to date of event!

Read more about St Edward’s written by parishioner Dr Gina Marks on the Heritage Open Days website – and thanks to parishioner Alison McIntyre for co-ordinating Heritage Open Day events across all three of Clifford’s churches with Christians Together in Clifford (the other two churches to visit are St Luke’s CofE and Clifford Methodist Church).
