St Cuthbert’s Church in Bradford was built in 1890-1 and designed by WH & JH Marten. It is designated a Grade II* Listed Building by Historic England.
The church has significant historic interest derived from its association with Mgr John O’Connor (1870-1952), the parish priest at St Cuthbert’s from 1919-1952.
Mgr O’Connor was the inspiration for GK Chesterton’s clerical detective Father Brown. In recent years the novels have been become even more widely known thanks to a popular BBC television series which tells the stories of this “savvy crime-fighting priest”.
St Cuthbert’s is taking part in the Yorkshire Churches Day on Saturday 16 September and will be open to visitors from 11.00am to 5.00pm, with a Sunday Vigil Mass to follow at 5.30pm.
The address of the church is Wilmer Road, Bradford, BD9 4RX.
