ICON OF CHRIST: TURIN SHROUD REPLICA EXHIBITION is coming to ST PETER’S CHURCH, SCARBOROUGH
The Shroud of Turin Exhibition is a travelling exhibition which takes life sized replicas of the Shroud of Turin to different venues.
St Peter’s Catholic Church, Castle Road, Scarborough YO11 1TH in our neighbouring Diocese of Middlesbrough is privileged to be hosting this exhibition from Saturday 8 October to Sunday 17 October 2022, between 11am and 3pm each day, except during Mass times.
The exhibition also includes detailed information boards and other exhibits. A programme is available on the parish website at http://www.scarboroughcatholicparishes.org.uk or contact St Peter’s via email scarboroughcatholicparishes@gmail.com or by telephone 01723 360358.
The actual Shroud is housed in the Cathedral of the Italian city of Turin. This exhibition, featuring life-sized photographic replicas of the Shroud of Turin was created in 2008, using the 1978 photographs of Barrie Schwortz – www.shroud.com. It aims to use the replica of the Shroud as a visual aid to tell the story of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and to examine the mystery of the cloth. The exhibition takes the journey of Jesus from his trial through the events of Good Friday to the empty tomb, using passages from the four Gospels. It tries to demonstrate what the flogging, the whip; the piercings, the nails and spear might really have been like, using the Shroud as a teaching aid. The Shroud of Turin exhibition hopes to give visitors a chance to understand more about the mysteries of the Shroud, and through it, come to a deeper understanding of the great sacrifice Christ made for us for our own redemption. St Peter’s looks forward to welcoming visitors from across their own diocese and beyond!
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
