St Benedict of Nursia (480 – 547)

St Benedict is perhaps one of our best saintly advocates of ‘Living Simply and Sustainably’. His ‘Rule’ continues to be the basis of monastic life today – and it has lessons for all Christians of our own time, as St Benedict warns against consumerism and excessive attachment to possessions, and advocates prioritising our spiritual life over worldly materialism, so as to live and die in holiness.
