A Reflection for Holy Week

After attending Holy Mass at St Anne’s in Keighley on the morning of Saturday 28 March, pilgrims on the Annual Diocesan Lenten Pilgrimage for Vocations ‘In Father Brown’s Footsteps’ stayed for a short while of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Before setting off on the walk, pilgrims are usually joined by Parish Priest Mgr David Smith for a group photograph – but this time it was different – and for a positive and hopeful reason! So many parishioners were in line for Mgr Smith to hear their Confession, that it was clear that the business of ‘shriving’ should come first!

Mgr David Smith contemplates the long queues for the Lenten Confessional!

Instead of taking the ‘usual’ photograph with pilgrims, we took away Fr David’s Parish Bulletin containing his thoughts for Holy Week – and, with his permission, it is reproduced here:

Many priests produce a ‘Thought for the Week’ for their Parish Bulletins. If – in any of the parishes of the Dioceses of Leeds, Middlesbrough and Hallam – you have found a particularly interesting, moving, or amusing ‘Father Writes…’, please send it (with his permission) to communications@dioceseofleeds.org.uk to form part of an occasional and inspirational series on this website!
