Congratulations to St Mary’s Menston and to Notre Dame Sixth Form College – FIRST and EIGHTH respectively in the Top Ten state schools in Leeds for Russell Group university entry!
Figures from the last three years just published by the Department for Education (DfE) show that of the 392 Key Stage 5 students who graduated from St Mary’s, Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy over that period, 29% of them went on to study at a Russell Group institution.
The other Catholic college in the list of the most successful state schools in the Leeds area was Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College with 18% of its students gaining entry to one of the country’s most prestigious universities.
The Russell Group consists of 24 universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, which share a focus on research and a reputation for academic achievement. In our region, Leeds, York and Sheffield Universities are part of that select group.
We are proud of all the students and staff at our Catholic schools across the Diocese of Leeds – but a special well done to both St Mary’s and Notre Dame on their success in the Leeds Local Education Authority area – and in particular to St Mary’s for coming Top of the Class!
