Congratulations to our two new Permanent Deacons, Martin Fenlon and Nicholas Stoddart, and to the parishes in which they serve!
Martin and Nicholas were ordained by Bishop Marcus on Saturday 25 November 2023 at Leeds Cathedral; Martin is in the Parish of St Wilfrid, Ripon and Nicholas’s parish is St John Mary Vianney in North Leeds. Both men were accompanied by family and friends as well as by their Parish Priests who had supported them in their formation for this ministry.

In his homily, the Bishop described the men’s threefold ministries: of the Word, of the Altar and of Charity. He exhorted them – with the help of their families – to hear and proclaim the Gospel; to instruct believers and unbelievers alike in Holy Doctrine; to express by their actions the Word of God which their lips proclaim; and to serve others with joy, as they would serve the Lord Himself – who came not to be served but to serve.
