Dame Gillian Weir in Conversation – Wheeler Hall, Leeds Cathedral

July 5, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

£5.00

Leeds International Organ Festival is delighted that the world-renowned organist will visit Leeds Cathedral on Wednesday 5 July to be interviewed by Peter Wright, formerly Director of Music at London’s Southwark Cathedral.

Dame Gillian is one of the true ‘greats’ of the organ world, both as a performer and as a personality. Described as ‘the touchstone by which other organists are measured’, she has led an acclaimed international career as a concert organist, having made over 330 concerto appearances under conductors including Claudio Abbado, Sir Andrew Davis and Marin Alsop.

She remains the only organist to be made a Dame Commander of the British Empire, and was the first female President of the Royal College of Organists.

David Pipe, Director of Leeds International Organ Festival, said, ‘It’s no exaggeration to say that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear one of our greatest living musicians discuss her glittering career. Dame Gillian is known for her eloquent wit and musical insight, and this promises to be an unforgettable evening.’

Dame Gillian Weir ‘In Conversation’ will take place in Leeds Cathedral’s Wheeler Hall, St Anne’s Street LS2 8BE  on Wednesday 5 July at 7pm. Tickets are just £5 and available from https://www.leedsiof.org/whats-on-in-2023/dame-gillian-weir-in-conversation
