Rev Deacon Edwin Murphy RIP

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rev Deacon Edwin Murphy who died peacefully at home yesterday, Sunday 29 May. Deacon Edwin died in his 102nd year, having celebrated his 101st birthday on 21 December 2021.

Edwin was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Bishop David Konstant on 8 December 1993 and was the longest serving Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Leeds at the time of his death. For three decades he was a faithful servant of the parish of St Edward King and Confessor at Clifford in West Yorkshire.

Please pray for the repose of Edwin’s soul and remember his family and friends in your prayers at this time.

  • Deacon Edwin’s body will be received into the Church of St Edward the Confessor, Chapel Lane, Clifford, LS23 6HU on Thursday 16 June, at 6:30pm and Holy Mass will be celebrated. Bishop Marcus will celebrate the Funeral Mass on Friday 17 June, at 11:00am.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
