Diocese Issues New Guide for Readers at Mass
Preparing for Sunday of the Word of God – A new Guide for Readers at Mass
The Diocese of Leeds Vicariate for Education has recently published a Guide for Readers at Mass. Produced by Fr Henry Longbottom with input from Bishop Marcus and Fr Matthew Habron (chair of the Diocesan Liturgy Commission), the Guide contains some “good practice” points which aim to provide help for new and longstanding readers alike.
The publication coincides with the Church’s celebration of “Sunday of the Word of God” on the 24th January.
Instituted in 2019, Pope Francis explained in his Apostolic Letter “Apparuit Illis” [https://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/education/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/motu-proprio-aperuit-illis-003.pdf] that the celebration of Sunday of the Word of God is an opportunity to “experience anew how the risen Lord opens up for us the treasury of his word and enables us to proclaim its unfathomable riches before the world”.
The Guide is available online through the Diocesan website [https://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/education/our-faith/year-of-the-word/readers/]
