Day of Prayer for Vocations

Vocations Sunday (or Good Shepherd Sunday) falls this year on 12 May.  It is a day which reminds all of us in the family of God that each of us is called to holiness and to exemplify the values of our faith lived out through our own vocation – whatever that vocation may be.

Anticipating the needs of our Church into the future, we all need to nurture and encourage vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Many people currently discerning vocations to the priesthood, the permanent diaconate or consecrated religious life would never have proposed themselves as candidates, believing in their humility that they were not good enough; and only after the encouragement of fellow parishioners and friends have they been able to take that crucial first step.

In the Diocese of Leeds, our Day of Prayer for Vocations is an opportunity to give that encouragement or discern that calling through prayer.  Everyone is welcome to join us on Friday 10th May 2019 at St Augustine’s Church, Harehills Lane, Leeds, LS8 5HR for a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration starting at 7pm to pray for vocations.

Anyone wishing to discuss whether they may have a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated religious life may find it more via the ‘How do I…?’ section of our website: https://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/how-do-i/ or you can contact the Vocations Director, Fr Michael Doody: michael.doody@dioceseofleeds.org.uk or simply speak to your own parish priest.
