An Advent Reflection

Mgr John Dunne has penned this short reflection to mark the beginning of the Season of Advent

Imagine you have an eldest son who has gone to live in another country.  He promises to return but he will not say when. He will only tell you that when he does come back he will set right all the family’s problems.  You will have such a celebration when you see him again. Meanwhile you can only wait in patience.

For you it would be a time of longing.  How often do you not think of him and ache to see him. And this longing is what makes the season of Advent so very special. Jesus, the eldest Son of the family, seems so far away.  He has said He would come back and that He would bring you all that you could desire or long for.  Meanwhile, wait in patience for His return and be prepared to welcome him back.

Think of Him often during Advent. Tell Him how much you long to see Him. Say ‘Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly”.
