The Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican, which took place between 1962 and 1965, addressed questions raised by the growing understanding of the Church’s nature and of the interpretation of scripture, as well as societal developments pushed forward by the search for justice and peace in the wake of global war. Its Constitutions, Declarations and Decrees have guided the life, teaching and worship of the Roman Catholic church in the decades which have followed, and yet – as Pope Benedict XVI so rightly pointed out – the documents themselves are hardly ever read by anyone, and yet many have such strong opinions on them!

This short six-session course offers an introduction to the themes and teachings of the Council documents as well as points for reflection. It is suitable either for personal use, or with a group.
