Discernment Group

The monthly discernment group helps men, aged 17 or over, who think that the Lord may be calling them to the priesthood, to reflect further on this possibility.

Our Thursday evening meetings are characterised by prayer, catechesis and good fellowship.

The meetings, which take place in the Chaplaincy at Leeds Trinity University College, Horsforth, begin with a cup of tea at 6.00 pm. At  6.30 pm we have a Holy Hour in the chapel which concludes with Evening Prayer and Benediction. There is an opportunity to go to confession during this period. Afterwards, a guest speaker gives a half-hour talk and those present share a meal. The dates of the meetings are listed below.

Participants are encouraged to attend some other important events in the diocese. They also meet with Mgr Grogan every six weeks or so. If it appears that they may indeed have a vocation to the priesthood, they are assigned a spiritual director.

All prospective seminarians are encouraged to engage in appropriate charitable work in their parishes.

The programme of discernment goes on throughout the year. Anybody who thinks that the Lord may be calling him to the priesthood simply needs to attend one of our meetings and find out more.
