Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust appoints new Chair from Our Diocesan Family!

The Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust (YHCT) has a new Chairman – and he’s a Catholic member of our own Diocesan Family!

Having only recently retired after several years as Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire (a role which represents the King at events in the county), Ed Anderson KSG CBE has been appointed as the new Chair of the YHCT.

Ed and his wife Heather who was formerly a Circuit Judge, have for many years been regular figures at the Cathedral’s Civic events.

In his new role, Ed is asking our parishes to consider becoming members of the Trust, which relies upon the support of churches, donors and local communities to continue its work in preserving Yorkshire’s rich Christian heritage.

To become a Friend of the Trust is £50 a year, which helps to ensure that grants remain available for churches in need throughout Yorkshire.

The Trust distributes approximately £100,000 annually in grants to Christian places of worship, both listed and unlisted, for repair, restoration and maintenance projects. Typical grants range from £2,000 to £10,000 depending
on the scale of the project, local fundraising efforts, and support from other funding bodies.

Parishes considering an application for funding will need to follow the usual diocesan procedures before applying to the Trust, as there are conditions that need to be met.
