World Youth Sunday – The Commissioning of The Twelve

On Sunday 20th November 2022, the Feast of Christ the King and World Youth Sunday, the Diocese of Leeds Youth Leadership Team ‘The Twelve’ were commissioned by Bishop Marcus at the 11am Mass at Leeds Cathedral.

The Twelve is made up of Catholic young people from across the Diocese who receive ongoing faith and leadership formation as well as collaborating with the Bishop, bringing him the voice of young people. During his homily, Bishop Marcus spoke about leadership, rising up as leaders and putting Christ at the centre of our lives. The Mass was followed by refreshments in Wheeler Hall where there was an opportunity for people to learn more about The Twelve, their priorities and what they’re doing in our diocese.  Many people enjoyed learning more about The Twelve by talking to the young people and reading the information provided.

The inaugural members of The Twelve were commissioned by Bishop Marcus in 2019, and this has been the first opportunity since the pandemic to come together for a commissioning of our current group. We were grateful for the prayerful and encouraging presence of some former members of The Twelve who were also in attendance. Since it was established, many young people from across the Diocese have served as members of The Twelve, several having now left to focus on their studies or to go to away to university etc.  We are thankful for each one and the contribution they made and still make in their own parishes and communities.
