For a short online resource on the Early Church, join Fr Mark Jarmuz for The Church that Follows Jesus Christ. This course is suitable for individual study, or for groups meeting online, and can be freely adapted to your needs. It covers the early life of the Church leading to the Council of Nicea (325 AD) and is now available as six 30-minute recordings on the Education pages of our Diocese of Leeds website: https://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/education/finding-out-more/resources/
Fr Mark asks: ‘We are familiar with the Creed which (in more normal times!) we recite at Mass each Sunday – but where did that Creed come from? Like every aspect of our Faith and our liturgical life, the Creed came from the lived experience of those who have come before us: the men and women who faced persecution – as many Christians across the world still do – and sought to be true to the message of Jesus offered to us in the Gospels and proclaimed from generation to generation. As we strive to understand our Faith better, to be able not simply to recite the Creed but to understand more deeply its meaning, this short series is a way to inspire our hearts with a new freshness: the Gospel is always new, always ‘alive and active’ (Hebrews 4:12).’
