The Advent of Darren’s Diaconate

Congratulations to one of our senior seminarians, Darren Jones, who was ordained Deacon on the evening of Monday 9 December 2019, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.

The Ordination took place in the chapel at St Mary’s College, Oscott where Darren is currently completing his studies for the priesthood. He was ordained by the Bishop of Shrewsbury, the Rt Rev Mark Davies.

Darren is well-known to the congregation at Leeds Cathedral. He worshipped there for many years before pursuing his priestly vocation, initially as a student of the Pontifical Beda College in Rome and latterly at Oscott College in the West Midlands. Clergy and lay friends from the Diocese travelled to Oscott and were present at the Ordination and at the celebratory dinner afterwards. He is currently on a pastoral placement at the Cathedral before returning to Oscott in late January to complete the final stage of his training for the priesthood.

We wish Darren all the very best as we look forward to the coming months and the culmination of his journey towards the sacred priesthood.
