Leeds International Organ Festival (LIOF) is back with a new Artistic Director: our own Diocesan Director of Music, Ben Saunders!
This year’s Festival runs from 12 May to 14 July 2025 and features Leeds Cathedral’s wonderful four-manual Klais organ, played by some of the finest organists from around the world.
We are also proud to be showcasing our Diocese of Leeds home-grown talent in the final recital of the festival, given by Leeds Cathedral Organ Scholar Frankie Tempest.
The varied and exciting programmes of this year’s recitalists will showcase the power, versatility and subtlety of the organ along with the players’ musicality and technical prowess.
Repertoire will involve some of the very earliest music written for organ, well known favourites, modern works and hopefully some new discoveries for music enthusiasts across the Diocese and beyond!
Now in its sixth year, and with something for pipe organ enthusiasts of all ages, Leeds International Organ Festival was originated as a joint Music and Communications initiative of the Diocese of Leeds. Former Leeds Cathedral Organist and Director of the Diocesan Keyboard Studies Programme, David Pipe, was the Festival’s first Artistic Director. Welcoming David back for a special guest appearance, Ben Saunders said:
‘As part of the festival’s continuing support of young organists I’m delighted to announce a special recital for children given by David Pipe as part of the Royal College of Organists’ Play the Organ Year 2025 – though don’t let that put you off if you’re no longer a child …!’
