Special guest is ‘all-ears’ for the Palm Sunday Gospel!

The parish of St Benedict’s, East Leeds, hosted a special guest on Palm Sunday, who was ‘all ears’ for the Gospel story of Jesus’ ride into Jerusalem!

‘Reggie’, a six-year old donkey who is normally based in Blackpool but resides in West Yorkshire outside the tourist season, paid a visit to Garforth to lead a procession before the morning Mass.

A team of parishioners led by Steve Taylor and Terry Owen had carefully prepared the church grounds in advance of the procession.  Parish Priest Fr Henry Longbottom accompanied by retired parishioner Mgr Peter Rosser joined the Faithful at the beginning of the procession.  After palm branches were blessed and the Gospel read, Reggie guided the congregation to the church entrance.

After Mass, children were treated to donkey rides.  Reggie gained many admirers and friends, but most importantly this was a wonderful and memorable way to kick start the drama of Holy Week for the Parish of St Benedict’s!
