SOS: Support Our Singers!

PLEASE HELP the senior choristers of the Bradford Catholic Youth Choir (BCYC) to take advantage of a wonderful development opportunity which has just arisen: a singing tour of Rome.

The choir has been invited to sing at Masses for All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days; at the Tomb of St Paul in the Church of St Paul without the Walls; and also give a concert in the Chapel of the Venerable English College. The experience of singing in Rome’s historic churches will be an inspiration for our diverse group of young singers from Catholic state primary schools across the Bradford and Keighley areas; and in addition to performing engagements, a programme of workshops and rehearsals will give them the intensity of study and preparation usually only found in private choir schools.

To ensure this experience is accessible and affordable for ALL choir members, we are seeking support from a range of Trusts, Foundations, corporate partners and individual donors.  Any support YOU are able to give to help with financing this tour – however small or big – will make a huge difference helping young people from Bradford grow in self-belief and confidence as they take part in an experience that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

The BCYC Just Giving Page may be found at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bcycrometour?utm_term=G4DjjRQG8

The total cost of taking all these young singers to Rome is £24,990, over half of which is transport and accommodation costs, but also includes entrance fees, the purchase of a choir uniform and tour T-shirt, and buying sheet music for the Masses and concert.

Preparing for and taking part in this tour will be a superb experience for the young singers involved, expanding their musical, cultural and personal horizons, and in addition raising the positive profile of Bradford’s young people and the high artistic standards they can achieve.

One of the aims of our Schools Singing Programme as a whole is to inspire the next generation of music leaders: be they professional musicians, church music leaders or teachers. A large number of our choir alumni have gone on to forge successful careers as professional musicians and several ex-choristers are now part of our own team of professional Choral Directors, leading our choral programmes within our parish and school communities.

The tour will be part of the BCYC’s preparation for broadcasting BBC ONE’s Christmas Day Mass LIVE from St Joseph’s, Bradford.
