Rev Fr David Bulmer RIP

Fr David Bulmer was born on 25 September 1964. He studied for the priesthood at the Venerable English College, Rome and was ordained in his home parish of St Mary, Selby by Bishop Konstant on 28 July 1990.

The first ten years of Fr David’s priesthood were marked by parochial appointments interspersed with periods of academic study, in Rome, in Oxford and in London. He was Assistant Priest at Our Lady and All Saints, Otley from 1991-93; and he was in residence at St Urban’s in Leeds from 1998-2000.

In 2000 Fr David became the Parish Priest of St Joseph’s, Moorthorpe where he remained until 2008. In that year he joined the staff at St Austin’s, Wakefield before returning to Rome and the Venerabile in 2010 to undertake further studies.

From 2012 to 2019 Fr David was Parish Priest of St Patrick’s, Birstall from where he moved to become Parish Priest of St Joseph the Worker at Sherburn-in-Elmet. Unfortunately, ill-health cut short his ministry at Sherburn, and he retired from parochial office in 2022, when he took up residence at Ashlea in the grounds of Hinsley Hall in Headingley.

Fr David died peacefully at a nursing home in Leeds on the evening of Tuesday, 25 November 2025, at the age of sixty-one. His death at this relatively young age will grieve all those who knew him. Fr David was a gifted and gentle priest, who sadly had to endure extended periods of ill-health during his later years.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
