Recent Diocesan Events – in pictures

Recent weeks have witnessed several important liturgical celebrations at Leeds Cathedral, led by Bishop Marcus. These began on 13 April, Palm Sunday, with Mass attended by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Abigail Marshall Katung. On the Wednesday of Holy Week the Bishop celebrated the Chrism Mass with the priests of the Diocese and the following evening the Mass of the Lord’s Supper began the Easter Triduum for 2025. Good Friday marked the Lord’s Passion and the Triduum concluded with the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday.

Following the funeral of the late Holy Father, Pope Francis on Saturday 26 April, the Church entered a period known as the Novemdiales –  nine days of mourning for the late Pope when Mass is offered each day for the repose of his soul. On the evening of Tuesday 29 April Bishop Marcus led a Solemn Requiem Mass for His Holiness Pope Francis which was attended by the Lord Mayor of Leeds and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Helen Thomson, representing HM King Charles.
