Please – act now to stop DIY abortion up to birth being made legal!

MPs Diana Johnson and Stella Creasy have both tabled amendments to the Government’s Criminal Justice Bill that would decriminalise abortion. In different ways, they would essentially legalise DIY abortion up to birth, for any reason.

The Bill will be debated on Wednesday 15 May, so please contact your MP urgently, asking them to oppose these extreme proposals. You can do this using SPUC’s easy to use webtool at: https://www.spuc.org.uk/abortionamendments.

In the Diocese of Leeds, initiatives such as Catholic Care – Caritas Leeds’ ‘Gianna Baby Bank’ gives listening as well as practical support to mothers throughout their pregnancy and during the first year after their baby’s birth. It is open to anyone within the Diocese, regardless of age, religion, race or marital status. Many other such projects exist elsewhere.

No pregnant woman or girl should feel alone and desperate enough to break the law: either of the land, or of nature! The strong bond between a mother and her baby should be unbreakable; women in crisis need to be shown compassionate care, given alternatives – and deterrents – from taking action which could cause them the lasting physical, emotional and psychological damage of aborting their baby – in particular aborting a baby they have carried to full-term.

SPUC has produced ‘A Holy Hour for Life’ as a resource for praying for the defeat of this amendment. Please pray for for help and comfort to be given to women in need, for the protection of their unborn babies, and for the dignity and human rights of all mothers, fathers and families affected by abortion.
