Our Diocesan Trustees: a thank you and a welcome!

Thank you to Michael Booth!

A new opportunity to use his many skills in a full-time role has led to property and buildings conservation expert Michael Booth deciding to step down as a Director of the Leeds Diocesan Trust.

Mike, who is a parishioner at Sacred Heart and St William, Uppermill, said, ‘I have very much enjoyed the experience of being able to serve the Diocese in this way over the last, nearly four, years. I have just re-read the reasons I advanced for putting my name forward in 2017 and, whilst these have been fully used, it has been very stimulating and challenging to deal with a whole range of other important matters.’

Bishop Marcus thanks him and we all wish him well in his new endeavours.

Welcome to Pat McDermott!

As the new Safeguarding structures in the Church have brought a requirement for Boards of Directors of all Catholic dioceses to form a Safeguarding Sub-Committee, Bishop Marcus has appointed a new Director with specialist safeguarding expertise to the Board.

A parishioner in our Burley-in-Wharfedale Parish of SS John Fisher and Thomas More, Pat McDermott will be well-known to many in the Diocese from his time as Head Teacher of St Joseph’s College, Bradford from 1998 to 2009. Since then he has continued his involvement in education, working for the National College for School Leadership, as an Inspector of Schools in Dubai and with schools in England, Spain and Latin America to ensure their safeguarding compliance. Pat is also a leadership consultant and coach.

He has been Chair of the Diocese of Leeds Safeguarding Commission since 2018 and a member of the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission for England and Wales since 2020.
