It was with great sadness that Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College announced the death aged 88 of Michael Tobbell, the first Chair of the Corporation from the foundation of the College, who helped transform Notre Dame from a girls’ grammar school to a sixth form college.
During his 14 years as Chair, Michael appointed many members of staff who helped shape Notre Dame to be the College it is today. This included the College’s first Principal, Terry Metcalfe, and Director of Finance for 29 years, Mark Shillito. Michael served as Chair from 1989 until retiring in 2003 when former Foundation Governor Margaret Ramsden took over as Chair of the Corporation.
Michael also served as a director of the Association of Colleges at a national level from 1997 – 2000.
The Notre Dame community and wider diocesan family is indebted to Michael’s service, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this sad time.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him; may he rest in peace. Amen.
