On Saturday 10 September, Leeds Trinity University will be holding a Mass in remembrance of former Chaplain, Fr David Smith.
Initially planned for 2020, the 25th anniversary of Fr David’s death, it had to be postponed owing to the lockdown.
Fr David was born in Otley in 1936, and was appointed Chaplain to Trinity and All Saints College in September 1982. His wisdom, advice and support helped so many students. He left the College in July 1991 to become Director of the National Vocations Centre in Leeds.
Sadly, he died in Otley Hospital on 20 May 1995.
The Mass will be celebrated by Leeds Trinity University Priest Chaplain and alumnus Fr Marc Homsey and alumnus Fr Mark Harold.
The timings on the day are:
12.00 noon – Mass in the University Chapel
1.00 – 2.00pm – Refreshments and nibbles in the Atrium
2.00 – 8.00pm – Networking in the StUdio Bar
Refreshments will be provided in the Atrium afterwards. To help LTU manage numbers on the day and cater for any specific requirements, please book your place here: https://www.leedstrinity.ac.uk/events/mass-to-remember-fr-david-smith-1.php
On the day there will be a book where guests can leave a message about their memories of Fr David. If you can’t attend and would like to share a message, please do so here. The book will be presented to Fr David’s family after the Mass.
Eternal Rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
