Hearing God’s Word on Zoom: Exploring the Old Testament Together
After a successful launch despite the pandemic, the national Year of the Word (“The God Who Speaks”) has been extended until the end of 2021. To build on a popular series of online talks and events last year, the Vicariate for Education is planning new ways in which people throughout the Diocese can deepen and share their knowledge of Scripture online.
Our programme of events for 2021 will begin in Lent, with “God With Us: Exploring the Old Testament Together”. This short course for adults, led by Hebrew Bible expert Fr Timothy Swinglehurst, will offer the chance to explore how some key Old Testament texts and figures show us the different ways in which God comes to live with His people.
Each week will focus on a new Old Testament book or figure, with topics including Genesis and the Wonders of Creation; Moses and the Encounter with the Living God; King David: Saint and Sinner; Isaiah and the Prophetic Word on Fire; The Psalmist: Songs of Wisdom, Songs of Praise. Sessions will include a brief introduction to some passages of Scripture, time to read them quietly in prayer, and an opportunity to discuss how God speaks to us through those texts in small groups.
All meetings will take place via Zoom, on Monday evenings in Lent from 7-8pm. Anyone interested in attending should contact gregory.stacey@dioceseofleeds.org.uk for invitations to the meetings on Zoom.
Below are the details for the final talk next Monday, 22 March 7.00pm
