Leeds @ FLAME 2025

On Saturday 15 March 2025, nearly 200 young people, chaplains, teachers, clergy and religious from across the Diocese of Leeds joined Ryan, Jessica, Fr Marc, and over 10,000 people at the largest Catholic youth event in England & Wales: FLAME!

Organised by members of CYMFed, the Catholic Youth Ministry Federation, FLAME saw renowned speakers, musicians and performers come together for a day of prayer, worship, fellowship, inspiring talks and opportunity to encounter Christ at the OVO Arena in Wembley. The theme for FLAME 2025 was Unstoppable: Fan the Flame of Hope to coincide with the Jubilee Year.

The day started in the early hours as four coaches filled with young people from across the areas of Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Harrogate, Dewsbury, Keighley, etc, all travelled down to Wembley! We even managed to get a group photo of everyone before heading into the arena.

The programme began with messages from the Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia; from the Holy Father, Pope Francis; and from Bishop David Oakley on behalf of the Bishop’s Conference.

“You are the Church, never forget that. With Christ by your side, you are Unstoppable!”

Bishop David Oakley

The line-up included Adeniké, GuvnaB, One Hope Project, Bear Grylls, David Wells, Br Chris Patiño FSC, World Youth Dance Crew, Isaac Harvey MBE and more! Each of us were reminded throughout the day of how hope is unstoppable and how we should fan the flame of hope, particularly during this Jubilee Year. We were also each given a copy of Bear Grylls’ brand new book, The Greatest Story Ever Told, which is an action-adventure re-telling of the Gospel featuring words from scripture.

“Faith isn’t part of the adventure, faith IS the adventure.”

Bear Grylls

A massive thank you to all the young people who came and to all the lay chaplains, teachers, youth group leaders and all those who accompanied them (and enjoyed it too!). We look forward to continuing our journey and keep fanning the flame of hope during this Holy Year and beyond as we begin to get ready to ‘Praise the Lord’ all over again at the next FLAME on Saturday 6  March 2027!
