Induction at St John Mary Vianney Parish

Mgr Canon Philip Moger was inducted as Parish Priest of St John Vianney Leeds (Immaculate Heart & St Paul’s) on the morning of Saturday 9 November by the Dean of North Leeds, the Very Rev Gerard Kearney VF. Also present was the Vicar General of the Diocese, Mgr Paul Fisher.

The Mass of Induction was attended by hundreds of parishioners from both churches as well as members of Fr Philip’s family and many friends. A number of his clergy friends were there to concelebrate Mass with him.

A highlight of the liturgy was the music provided by a combined choir of children from both parish primary schools, Immaculate Heart, Moortown and  St Paul’s, Alwoodley. Mgr Moger was officially welcomed to the parish by Mr Michael Gardener, the chair of the Parish Committee.

Mgr Moger’s appointment to his new parish comes after eleven years as Dean of the Cathedral and Parish Priest of the Parish of Mother of Unfailing Help, which also includes the Church of the Holy Rosary at Chapeltown. He succeeds Canon Tim Wiley who is now Parish Priest of St Joseph’s, Pontefract and joins Fr Josh Hilton, Assistant Priest at St John Vianney Parish since his ordination in 2017.

After the Mass a celebratory lunch was held in the Queen’s Hall with food being provided by generous parishioners. The bar was, of course, open and the celebrations lasted well into the afternoon and beyond.
