Head Teachers ‘Take a Walk on the Whernside’!

Head Teachers and managers in the Blessed Peter Snow Catholic Academy Trust (BPSCAT) kept themselves in ‘peak condition’ with a leadership and wellbeing day spent climbing Whernside, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

The Trust has an ongoing commitment to ensuring staff’s physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing and seeks creative ways to support leadership development in our Catholic schools. In this Year of St Francis of Assisi, taking one of the regular Head Teacher Forums and briefing days out of the conference room and into the countryside was (quite literally) ‘a breath of fresh air’!

The day was facilitated and led through the Trust’s partnership with Wakefield-based adventurer and wellbeing coach, Jonathan Kattenberg, whose company ‘Walking With My Bear’ focuses on leadership, resilience, and reflection through walking and shared experience outdoors.

David Hymas, the Trust’s Governance Manager and Lead for Catholic Life, said:

‘The day provided an opportunity for colleagues to step away from the pace and pressures of school life and spend time reflecting together on leadership, vocation, wellbeing and the importance of supporting one another. It was also a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships across the Trust in a different environment and create space for honest conversations which are often difficult to achieve during formal meetings. There was a real sense throughout the day of walking together as a community of leaders, supporting one another through challenge and recognising the importance of looking after ourselves as we continue to serve our Catholic school communities.’
