Fr Tony Blesses the Flamborough Lifeboat

Fr Tony Wilson is Parish Priest in land-locked Selby but has celebrated a special service in Flamborough to bless the Lifeboat and her RNLI volunteer crew.

Each year, Fr Tony’s housekeeper, Joanne, raises funds for a different good cause through a Charity Hog Roast – and this year, well over £1,000 was raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and for the RNLI in Flamborough.

Fr Tony blessed both the boat and her crew, and in an interview on BBC Radio York, he paid tribute to these ‘Key Workers’ who had continued their life-saving volunteering all through the pandemic, even though the restrictions had prevented their weekly training sessions from taking place.

Fr Tony also revealed that he had personal reasons for appreciating and supporting the work of the RNLI, as 40 years ago, he himself had been one of ‘those in peril on the sea’ and was rescued when his boat suffered engine failure in the North Sea off Withernsea!
