The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has published its final report.
In order to respond to the work and demands of the Inquiry, the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and Conference of Religious for England and Wales created a Catholic Council to assist the Inquiry in its work. Chaired by Baroness Nuala O’Loan DBE, the Council assisted in directing the Inquiry to the relevant Church entities and bodies so that the fullest response to its questions and requests could be made. The Catholic Council was granted core participant status in the hearings relating to the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Council has published the following statement in support of the Catholic Church in England and Wales’ continuing commitment to the work of safeguarding those with whom we work and come into contact:
