SUMMARY:CAFOD's Harvest Fast Day
DESCRIPTION:In the Horn of Africa\, CAFOD is supporting people facing severe droughts as a result of the failure of the last four rains. \nAfter many years of drought\, a large-scale famine is looking likely. Hunger is rife across Kenya\, Ethiopia\, Eritrea and Somalia\, reaching as far as South Sudan. \nThese countries are the homelands of many of our own parishioners across the Diocese of Leeds – including our Eritrean congregation and clergy\, one of whom is our newest priest whose family lives in South Sudan. \nLocal CAFOD partners are providing much needed emergency assistance through the World Food Crisis Appeal | CAFOD and this will be the focus of the forthcoming Harvest Fast Day on Friday 7 October 2022. \nPlease pray for all those in our diocese worrying about how their families and friends may be affected by the drought in the Horn of Africa – and please help CAFOD’s on-going work supporting people and communities around the world to live with dignity!

SUMMARY:Second Collection for World Mission Sunday
DESCRIPTION:World Mission Sunday is coordinated by Missio\, the Pope’s official charity for world mission. It takes place annually on the penultimate Sunday in October and the World Mission Sunday collection is one of just three personally requested by the Pope each year. \nMissio worldwide supports every mission diocese overseas (1\,070) until they are self-sufficient. For this year\, an international short film has been created\, which focuses on the Holy Father’s theme for World Mission Sunday 2022 (WMS22) – ‘You shall be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth’ (Acts 1:8). \nLink to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt_lZVX6dpc \nTwo other short films focus on the work of a lay missionary – Maria – in Ethiopia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAgrOtaZoiQ \n… and on a beneficiary of Maria’s work at the Kidist Mariam Centre\, Beth (her name has been changed to protect her identity)\,  – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7tkThdsY \nBeth says: ‘I believe that God is always before you and behind you in all your troubles… He is prominent for a person like me\, who has fallen in life. He is my life. God is my life and my everything’. \nThis weekend\, please help support the work of Missio across the world!
