SUMMARY:Annual Diocesan Walking Pilgrimage for Vocations 'In Father Brown's Footsteps'
DESCRIPTION:Walk our Third Annual Lenten Pilgrimage for Vocations ‘In Fr Brown’s Footsteps’!\nFollow the route taken from Keighley to Ilkley over the Roman road across Ilkley Moor in March 1904 by GK Chesterton and the ‘real’ Father Brown\, Diocese of Leeds priest\, Fr John O’Connor! \nThe Pilgrimage begins with Holy Mass at St Anne’s Catholic Church in Keighley (check St Anne’s parish bulletin for that week’s Saturday morning Mass time – currently 9am); a stop for packed lunches at Sacred Heart Catholic Church\, Ilkley; ends with Stations of the Cross at Myddelton Calvary\, Ilkley; and\, in common with all our sustainable walking pilgrimages\, both ends of the route are close to reliable public transport –  Keighley and Ilkley Railway Stations. \nIt’s a fully risk assessed walk\, so all pilgrims are asked to sign up by contacting:\npilgrimage-walks@dioceseofleeds.org.uk\n  \nWhether you’re able to walk the route\, or meet us up at Sacred Heart or Myddelton Calvary\, we can ALL join with Bishop Marcus in Praying for Vocations! \nOur Lady of Unfailing Help! Pray that the Lord of the Harvest will send labourers into His harvest and that He will grant an abundance of vocations to the priesthood\, diaconate and religious life within the Dioceses of Leeds and Middlesbrough\, and throughout the world. Amen.\n

SUMMARY:Feast Day of Blessed Ceferino Giménez Malla: Patron of Gypsies\, Roma & Travellers
DESCRIPTION:On the Feast Day of the Patron of Gypsies\, Roma and Travellers\, we remember in our prayers all members of those communities in our Diocese. \nBlessed Ceferino Giménez Malla (1864 – 1936) was born in Spain to a Catholic Roma Gypsy family. \n\n\nDuring the Spanish Civil War\, Ceferino intervened on behalf of a priest who was being arrested – and was himself taken away and imprisoned with around 350 others in a monastery which the authorities had seized to use as a prison. \nIt is said that when asked if he was carrying a weapon\, Ceferino affirmed that he was and showed the soldiers his Rosary! Told that if he handed over his Rosary beads he would be freed\, Ceferino refused – and so it happened that on 9 August 1936\, Ceferino and others were driven to the cemetery where they would be shot and buried in a mass grave. Holding his Rosary\, Ceferino kept on praying and loudly shouting\, ‘Long live Christ the King!’ \n\n\nHe was beatified by Pope St John Paul II on May 4\, 1997. The Holy Father said that Ceferino ‘knew how to sow harmony and solidarity among his own\, also mediating conflicts that sometimes blur the relationship between non-Roma and Roma\, showing Christ’s love knows no boundaries of race or culture’. \nFind out more about Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller people in our region by visiting the website of the charity Leeds GATE: https://www.leedsgate.co.uk/

SUMMARY:National Day of Prayer for Survivors of Abuse
DESCRIPTION:The National Day of Prayer for Survivors of Abuse takes place every year on the fifth Tuesday of Easter when we remember in prayer ALL people who have suffered abuse of any kind – especially that which has been church-related abuse – and especially those victims and survivors from our own Diocese of Leeds and our sister Dioceses of Middlesbrough and Hallam. \nThe Catholic Church Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has produced information and resources to guide our prayers:\nhttps://www.cbcew.org.uk/national-day-of-prayer-for-survivors-of-abuse-2026/ \nBishop Marcus installed the icon of St Raphael in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Leeds Cathedral as a memorial and a focus of prayer for victims and survivors of abuse and their families. Although such memorials have in some places in the world been erected outside in the grounds of churches\, as far as we know\, this was the first memorial of its kind erected within a Catholic Cathedral and we hope it  is a place where victims and survivors of abuse themselves will find healing and peace. \nThe Bishop’s reason for commissioning the image of St Raphael the Archangel was because of his biblical association with the divine gift of healing and restoration\, making him another of our ‘Safeguarding Saints’ – and a worthy Icon to be installed into Leeds Cathedral to encourage prayer for the healing of\, and justice for\, all those who have suffered from physical or sexual abuse as children or vulnerable adults. \n \nSt Raphael: pray for us \nSafeguarding is Everybody’s Business! \nIf any any child or adult is at risk of immediate harm\, call 999.\nThe Diocese of Leeds Safeguarding Team is available Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm. Direct any concerns via email to: Safeguarding@dioceseofleeds.org.uk or speak to our Safeguarding Team on 0113 2618046. Anyone who brings concerns or allegations to the notice of the Church will be responded to sensitively\, respectfully and seriously. All concerns and allegations will be addressed using the Church’s national procedures and in a timely manner. The Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA) can also be contacted on 0207 901 1920 or via email at admin@catholicsafeguarding.org.uk \nA copy of our current Safeguarding Communications Plan is also available on the Safeguarding website.
