Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. (Jeremiah 1:5)
As Catholics, we believe in the dignity and sanctity of all human life, from conception until natural death – and not forgetting the difficult situations and choices to be faced by most of us in between. Far from being ‘just a collection of cells’, an unborn human’s heartbeat can be detected just 5 weeks after conception, and by 12 weeks all the baby’s tiny fingers and toes are fully formed … and yet, for every five babies born in England and Wales, two are aborted. Abortion is a human tragedy affecting more than just the unborn; women and girls feeling unable to continue with their pregnancy need our compassion, care and support, as do the fathers and families also affected. Gentle, non-judgmental, loving persuasion, backed up by practical help may change hearts, even if we cannot change laws. Please consider supporting 40 Days for Life and other pro-life events in the Diocese of Leeds.
