Could this be some kind of record of repairing and re-use?

St Wilfrid’s Way pilgrim, Queenie, is a parishioner at St Augustine’s in Harehills with a passion for sustainability – and she’s not keeping it under her hat!

She’s had her venerable old ‘Tilley’ hat at least since coming to Leeds in the 1990s – and has resisted all suggestions that it was past its best, repairing the seams of this ‘crowning glory’ with colourful binding made from other recycled cloth.

Of today’s ‘throwaway culture’, Queenie says: ‘The way we live should be less about money and material possessions and more about love for God’s creation!’

Both Queenie and her husband, Frank, joined both days of the Annual Diocesan Camino.

It was Frank’s second pilgrimage this year after walking the Portuguese Camino to Santiago de Compostela.

What’s YOUR ‘record’ for repair or re-use of any item – whether it be clothing, a car – or a carrier bag? Contact environment@dioceseofleeds.org.uk with a photograph of the object to tell us about how long you’ve kept it out of landfill!
