Bible Story Minecraft Competition 2020

Art Competition for Schools

Diocese of Leeds Schools are invited to encourage their pupils to produce works of art (drawing, painting, sculpture, print, etc.) illustrating a text from the following scenes and passages in Gospel of Matthew:

– The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12)

– The Temptation in the Desert (Matthew 4:1-11)

– The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-13)

– Parables of the Kingdom (Matthew 13)

Entries on paper should be A4 size, and some text from the Gospel should feature in the artwork, or the work should be given a title to indicate the text which it illustrates. Entries should also include a very short reflection by the child on the reasons for their choice of subject, and how they feel that God speaks to them through the text. This can be as short as 2-3 sentences, but may be longer if appropriate, depending on the age of the artist.

Schools may submit up to four entries, and there will be three winners (Category A: Key Stage 1 pupils; Category B, Key Stage 2 pupils; Category C, Key Stage 3 pupils).  Winners and runners-up will be awarded a prize and their artwork will be displayed together with selected commended entries at the Diocesan Scripture Festival at Hinsley Hall on May 17th. Unless specially requested, pieces of art will be retained by the Diocese for display during Year of the Word events.

All entries should be submitted (either as a photo/scan, or otherwise by sending the original artwork), to Gregory Stacey and Deacon Henry Longbottom at the Vicariate for Education by Friday 3rd April 2020. For more information, or to submit entries electronically, please email
