Ministers of Holy Communion

Commissioned (or extraordinary) ministers of Holy Communion have an important role in most parishes and communities of the Diocese. The minister’s function is to distribute Holy Communion, either within mass or by taking it to a sick person, when an ordained minister (bishop, priest or deacon) is absent or impeded.

The Liturgy Office of The Catholic Church in England and Wales produces a useful guide for those involved in the ministry of distributing
Holy Communion.
