The key aim of Children’s Liturgy is to proclaim the gospel of the day following the principles of liturgy.
Each Sunday, God’s people gather together to celebrate in Word and Sacrament the mystery of Our Lord’s death and resurrection. The celebration of the Mass includes everyone, both young and old. In accordance with the Directory for Children’s Masses, it is appropriate that young children are not neglected because of their inability to participate or to understand what happens and what is proclaimed in the
celebration In many parishes there is a Liturgy of the Word with Children, celebrated in a separate place by leaders and parents. The children and adults taking part then return to their families in the main body of the church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
For more information, the Diocese of Leeds has produced a document giving helpful guidelines for Children’s Liturgy in parishes.
