(Don’t) Climb Every Mountain!

Founder and stalwart of the Friends of St Patrick’s Mission and regular walker on the THREE Peaks Challenge, Matt Campbell, missed the 2020 ONE Peak Challenge on 22 August – but in common with the Franciscan Friars and the many others who didn’t climb every mountain this year (just Great Whernside), Matt, Fr Giles Barrie CFR and one other friend will now undertake the Challenge this coming Sunday, 25 October.

The heating, lighting and everyday running costs of St Patrick’s Mission come to in excess of £25,000 a year. It’s a spiritual resource for the community of visitors to Bradford’s city centre, as well as the many homeless and vulnerable people who use the Franciscan Friars’ (now outdoor and Covid-safe) soup kitchen and clothing bank.

One extremely generous engineering firm in the area recently responded to the Friends of St Patrick’s Appeal with a very large donation of more than £15,000. The target for the grateful supporters on the One Peak Challenge was to try and find the remaining £10,000 of annual costs, of which Matt and all our intrepid walkers have already raised £7,000. This means that Matt, who is bravely taking on this gruelling challenge just a few weeks after a serious operation, only needs a few more kind-hearted sponsors to make up the remaining £3,000 …
