The Diocese of Leeds seeks a talented Deputy Director to join a committed and hardworking team from January 2023 (or earlier if possible). Following the appointment of our new Director of Education from September 2022 this an exciting time to join the education team as it develops to address the needs of Diocesan schools and Catholic education in an ever changing landscape. The post of Deputy Director affords the successful candidate a high profile and influential role, working in partnership with the Director to help drive and fulfil Bishop Marcus’ vision for Catholic Education within the Diocese of Leeds.

of education.

The Diocese of Leeds is committed to the provision of high quality Catholic schools and colleges. In pursuit of this, the Deputy Director will work closely with the Episcopal Vicar for Education and the Director of Education in support of the strategic development, promotion and effectiveness of Catholic education in the Diocese. The Diocese of Leeds covers all eight local authorities of West Yorkshire, and parts of North Yorkshire, Lancashire and the East Riding. It has 93 schools, academies and colleges and a close partnership with Leeds Trinity University. The Diocesan offices are based at Hinsley Hall, Headingley Leeds.

As a practising and committed Catholic with a good knowledge of Catholic education and an understanding of the church’s mission for Religious Education, the successful applicant will:

  • be an experienced and effective leader and manager with a proven track record, good interpersonal skills, able to work independently and as a valued member of a small, busy team;
  • have a detailed knowledge and understanding of education policy, and the ability to present policies and objectives to a range of audiences, including the Bishop and Trustees, schools, clergy, local authorities, DfE and Regional School Commissioners;
  • to support the planning of school places in the diocese as well as advising schools and academies on matters relating to admissions;
  • provide high quality advice on a range of Catholic education issues, within the Canon law, legal and educational framework in which the schools operate
  • provide guidance, advice, challenge and support to CEOs, head teachers and school governors.
