City of Culture Honours St Blaise

An old Bradford tradition was revived on Saturday 1 February when the St Blaise Procession took place in honour of the city’s patron. Processing through Bradford city centre the participants prayed for the city of Bradford as the 2025 UK City of Culture begins.

Meeting at10:00am, in Centenary Square, in front of Bradford City Hall and asking for God’s blessing; the procession made its way to the old Wool Exchange on Market Street to offer devotional prayers at the statue of St Blaise. From there it processed to St Patrick’s Church on Westgate for Mass and the traditional blessing of throats for the Feast of St Blaise.

Thanks are due to the Franciscan Friars of Renewal community at St Patrick’s Mission for organising the event and a reminder of Bradford’s religious history. Our Picture shows the procession outside the Wool Exchange, with Mgr Paul Grogan, Parish Priest of Mary Mother of God, Bradford leading the prayers.
