Christ the King’s Jubilee Colours: Red, White, Blue – and Green!

Pupils and staff at Christ the King Catholic Primary School in Bramley celebrated HM the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in just the green-fingered way Her Majesty would have wished: planting fruit trees as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative!

Bramley is an area of Leeds with many parks and the school, which has a recent ‘Good’ Ofsted report, already enjoys spacious grounds which include both places to play – and to pray. The the new orchard complements the planting in the Prayer Garden, as well as the children’s recent cultivation of sunflowers, the national flower of Ukraine.

Head Teacher Anne-Marie Waide said: ‘This will support our green legacy at Christ the King, with every tree being planted benefiting not only our pupils in school, but also the beautiful wildlife in our school environment.’

Throughout the day, pupils enjoyed participating in a variety of celebratory activities concluding with a street party on the school playground.

… and the pupils’ indoor screen-printing activities also followed a suitably ‘regal’ floral theme …!
