The Bambisanani Partnership has been named as International Sport and Physical Education Charity of the Year at the annual Acquisition International Non-Profit Organisation Awards!
The South African High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency JN Mamabola, contacted founder David Geldart, asking him to pass on his thanks and sincere congratulations to the entire team, many of whom are students from St Mary’s, Menston and from Leeds Trinity University.
The Bambisanani Partnership is a collaboration developed in 2006 by David Geldart between St Mary’s Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy and Mnyakanya School in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. ‘Bambisanani’ is the Zulu word for ‘working hand in hand’.
David said: ‘Our work is about building capacity and empowering people and communities not developing a “dependency culture”. Funding everything would be patronising to say the least and ultimately self-defeating. We don’t do anything that isn’t driven by the local community; engagement and “buy in” are essential. Partnership means partnership.’
